On Sunday, St. Andrew's College 1st Soccer knocked off Sports Illustrated's 7th-ranked Northfield Mount Hermon School (MA) 1-0 at the NXTLVL Showcase in Albany, New York, running the Saints' September winning streak to four straight.
Senior centre back Michael Madeiros '27 buried a first half header and was a determined ball-winner for the full 90 minutes, as the Saints put in their most complete performance of the young season. The rain-soaked match-up saw some early opportunities at both ends, with junior Joseph Corsetti '28 making a pair of point blank first half saves to the keep the match scoreless.
SAC captain Nick Alexander '27 and left back Jackson Mahoney '27 also gave tireless efforts to command the back line, with midfield workhorses Enzo Han '27, Heris Ziai '27 & Luscien Yu '29 consistently thwarting the NMH attack.
On day one at the NXTLVL event, SAC was in control from wire to wire versus Rhode Island's Wheeler School, conceding a late marker to make the final 3-2. Forwards Ziai and Dylan Hahoney '27 assisted on each others goals, with Madeiros nodding home the Saints' second on a delivery from Merek Husack '27, who also provided the assist on Sunday. Ziai's goal proved to be the game winner. Senior Raistlan Evans '27 earned the victory between the pipes.
Before venturing south of the border, SAC kicked off their CISAA league campaign on Friday under the lights at Crescent School's homecoming. The Saints spoiled the party, cruising to a 6-2 win. Ahead 1-0 at the half, through a Joshua Shi '27 goal, SAC poured it on in the second stanza via a pair goals from Dylan Mahoney and singles from Ziai, Jackson Mahoney and Jamaican new boy Daniel Beek '29, who opened his Saints account.
Prior to their three straight road wins, the boys claimed a 4-0 victory on home soil over Selwyn House (QC) on Saturday, September 19, which included two more goals from Dylan Mahoney and scores from Husack and sophomore forward Alex Wang '29.
