Seniors Heris Ziai '27 and Nick Alexander '27 powered the St. Andrew's College 1st Soccer homecoming attack to a 3-1 win over visiting Upper Canada College, as the Saints earned their fifth straight victory.
Winger Ziai notched a goal and two assists, with centre back Alexander scoring twice.
With some early sustained pressure, it took SAC just three minutes to get on the board, with Ziai's corner finding the head of Alexander. The Saints took their foot off the gas after the score however, and muddled through a scrappy first half that saw UCC tie the match with their only shot on target all afternoon.
The Saints rediscovered their rhythm in the second stanza, with Enzo Han '27 and Luscien Yu '29 providing the spark in the middle of the park. And it was a Ziai and Alexander connection once again that put the Saints back on top.
After SAC connected with a couple of crossbars, Ziai ended up being the beneficiary of a nifty assist from Gabe Covello '28. Forward Dylan Mahoney '27 did the work down the wing to feed Covello at the top of the 18, who chipped the UCC defence and put Ziai in the clear for a chip of his own, over the helpless goalkeeper.
When UCC did find a small window to attack, it was often senior centre back Michael Madeiros '27 asserting himself in the middle of the park to nullify the danger.
Raistlan Evans '27 and Joseph Corsetti '28 shared the win in goal.
Up next for SAC 1st Soccer is a pair of CISAA league matches, which includes a trip to De La Salle on Monday before returning home on Wednesday to tangle with St. Mike's.
Go Saints!
