Despite over 80% possession, eight shots on target and a dozen corners, St. Andrew's College 1st Soccer dropped a tight 1-0 decision to St. George's School (BC) in the 2026 CAIS Championship Final.
With a series of dangerous scoring opportunities created through wingers Heris Ziai '27 and Dylan Mahoney '27, the Saints could not find the breakthrough. SAC poured on the pressure in the second half, with Ziai being denied far post via a diving save, in addition to a deflected free kick that grazed the post. SGS scored on their only shot on target just 12 minutes into the contest, and it proved to be the game winner.
Earlier in the day, SAC cruised past old rivals Upper Canada College (ON) 3-1 in the semifinal, with Santiago Bracamontes Lance '29, Dylan Mahoney and Nick Alexander '27 finding the back of the net for the Red & White. And in SAC's first knockout match on Friday afternoon, the Saints were relentless in a 7-0 win over Lakefield College School (ON), with Alex Wang '29 and U16 call-up Athan Smardenkas '30 each earning a hat trick. U16 midfielder Toby Bell '30 capped the win off with a goal direct from a corner.
Building up to the elimination action, SAC collected round robin wins over Ridley College (ON) 5-0, Stanstead College (QC) 3-0 and The York School (ON) 5-0.
Saints goalkeepers Raistlan Evans '27 and Joseph Corsetti '28 earned two CAIS clean sheets apiece.
Over the three-day event, Wang led SAC with four goals, while Ziai, Bracamontes, Dylan Mahoney, Michael Madeiros '27 and Jah'Zion Taylor '27 each netted a pair. Ziai topped the assists board with four.
