SAC 1st Soccer sets squad & opens 1-1 south of the border

St. Andrew's College 1st Soccer opened 2025 with a 1-1 weekend south of border, topping Nichols School (NY) before falling to Ohio's Western Reserve Academy.

This season's Saints are a youthful crew, that includes two freshman and just four seniors.

Two of those seniors combined for five goals on Saturday.

Jamaican forward Jayden Walters '26 notched an opening day hat trick and winger Jarel Ndombele '26 (Toronto, ON) buried two, to lead SAC to a 9-2 win at Nichols School. The Saints dominated possession from start to finish in Buffalo, with defender Michael Madeiros '27 (Hamilton, Bermuda) also getting on the scoresheet, alongside new faces Jackson Mahoney '27 (St. John's, NL), Enzo Han '27 (Richmond Hill, ON) and Alex Wang '29 (Beijing, China). Raistlan Evans '27 (Edmonton, AB) and Joseph Corsetti '28 (Richmond Hill, ON) shared duty in goal.

On Sunday, SAC ran into some relentless Western Reserve Academy (OH) pressure in a 4-0 defeat. Missing four starters, the Saints received a yeomen's effort in the middle of the park from Ndombele, Merek Husack '27 (Calgary, AB), senior Josh Henriques '26 (Kingston, Jamaica), Madeiros and new centre back Nick Alexander '27 (Sudbury, ON).

Also returning to 1st Soccer this season is senior midfielder/winger Adam Popatia '26, forward/fullback Joshua Shi '27 (Stouffville, ON) and centre back/midfielder Heris Ziai '27 (Sandys, Bermuda). They're joined by new boys Safeer Ahmad '27 (Redwood City, California), Dylan Mahoney '27 (St. John's, NL), Jah'Zion Taylor '27 (Pembroke, Bermuda) and Luscien Yu '29 (Shanghai, China).

Up next for SAC Soccer is their annual pre-season jamboree on Saturday, September 13th at home on Yuill Field.
