Once again, the 1st Soccer Saints had their hands full in a U19 tournament division — and they were up to the challenge, claiming top spot at the second annual MSV Showcase at home on Yuill Field.
SAC went 2-1-1 over the weekend, and on Sunday slipped past Ribeiro-Moojen Pre-University Soccer (RMPUS) 1-0 in a scrappy match and penalty shootout to hoist the trophy. It was the Saints third championship of the season, following their second straight CISAA (regional) and CAIS (national) crowns.
The win in the tournament finale was also sweet revenge for the Saints' 2-0 loss to RMPUS on Saturday. Raistlan Evans '27 was between the pipes for the shootout win.
To open the event on Saturday, SAC got a late-winner from captain Joshua Henriques '26 on an Alex Wang '29 rebound, to earn the 1-0 victory over Toronto United. Joseph Corsetti '28 earned the clean sheet. On Sunday morning it was much of the same, as SAC battled back for a 1-1 draw with Futuro (Ottawa) through a crafty Nick Alexander '27 tap-in off of a perfectly placed Heris Ziai '27 free kick. That centre back to centre back connection vaulted the Saints into the final.
Following the successful tournament weekend, the entire Saints squad was honoured for their championship season and 21-3-5 fall record at the St. Andrew's College Athletics Awards.
Earning this season's Most Improved Player award was senior winger Jarel Ndombele '26, who tallied 11 goals and a team-high 13 assists (up from 4 goals & 3 assists a year ago) – while always being determined to outwork the opposition and raise our standard.
Our 2025 Most Valuable Player award, which is presented by the Peruvian Old Boys, was handed out to senior forward Jayden Walters '26. Jayden scored a whopping 30 goals in 26 games, added 8 assists and had a stretch in September/October where he scored a goal in 10 straight games!
Congratulations to the entire squad on an amazing fall!
We now ramp up our strength and conditioning program, start our futsal training and get set to head indoors for our winter season.
Go Saints!
