The 2024-2025 season was one to remember for the U18 AAA Hockey team, filled with international adventure, thrilling tournament moments, and lessons learned on and off the ice.
Â
The season began with a once-in-a-lifetime overseas tour to Czechia, Austria, and Germany. The boys soaked in European culture, strengthened their bond as a team, and played exhibition games against international competition. From the picturesque town of Karlovy Vary to the breathtaking St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague, to pro soccer and hockey games, and even a tour of a decommissioned salt mine, this trip was as much about team building as it was about hockey.
Â
Back at home, the Saints competed fiercely in the first-ever SAC U18 AAA Tournament, advancing to the semifinals before falling to a strong Shattuck-St. Mary's squad. But the bounce-back was swift and sweet: after the holiday break, the team headed to Pittsburgh for the EP Cup Series Tournament, where
Felix Tran played the hero in overtime to lift the team to a 4-3 championship win over Honeybaked.
Â
As the season progressed, the team continued to push themselves, highlighted by a memorable trip to the University of Notre Dame. Guided by SAC Old Boys
Gordie McDonnell '21 and
Kade Hennessy '22, the team toured the iconic campus before hitting the ice in the Compton Family Ice Arena. Though the team battled hard in every game – each one going to a shootout – offensive struggles began to emerge, foreshadowing a tough stretch to close the year.
Â
Despite dominating in many matchups, the team came up just short in key moments, falling to Appleby in overtime in the CISAA finals and later struggling to find the back of the net during the Gary West Tournament, netting just 7 goals across four games.
Â
Still, this group had no shortage of standout performers and inspiring moments.
