1st Hockey's streak comes to an end

Bishop Kearney too much for the Saints

Sept 20, 2023

Rochester, NY

In a highly anticipated matchup between St. Andrew's College and Bishop Kearney, hockey fans were treated to an intense and thrilling game that had it all - goals, penalties, and incredible goaltending. Unfortunately for the Saints on this day they were on the wrong end of the result and their season opening nine game win streak was snapped.

The opening period set the tone for an action-packed game. At 12:44, Bishop Kearney's Mitchell Kneidel lit the lamp with an assist from Matthew Gilmore, giving Bishop Kearney a 1-0 lead. The home crowd roared as Bishop Kearney continued to press, and they were rewarded at 01:56 with the game-winning goal by Ben Rakowski, assisted by Vincent Ipri, making it 2-0 in favor of Bishop Kearney.
Period two continued to deliver excitement as Bishop Kearney's Brayton Frick scored an unassisted goal at 04:13, extending the lead to 3-0 for Bishop Kearney. The final frame started in the worst possible way for SAC as Bishop Kearney's Grant Denuccio found the back of the net with an assist from Charles Kresl, making it 4-0 with 18:46 left in the game. The Saints showed some resilience with a goal at 13:59 by Jack Good, assisted by Dean Letourneau, closing the gap to 4-1. SAC pushed but couldn't convert on some late powerplays and the game finished 4-1 for the hosts.

St. Andrew's took 5 minors for 10 minutes and Bishop Kearney had 7 minors for 14 minutes, neither team converted on the power play.

1st Hockey looks to rebound in their next game on Sunday, Oct 1st in Elmira, Ontario against the Sugar Kings of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. Puck drop is at 7:30 PM at the Dan Snyder Memorial Arena.
