Grade 11 student, Kieren Dervin has recently inked his commitment to play hockey and pursue his academic journey at Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) come September 2025.
"I chose Penn State because of its excellent hockey program. They have all the tools to get players to the next level, and I also really like that they are in the BIG 10 conference, which is arguably the best hockey conference in NCAA," Kieren remarked with enthusiasm. His decision reflects a dedication to both athletic prowess and academic excellence, showcasing a commitment to reaching new heights in his chosen fields.
Kieren, a player known for his dynamic and smooth skating style, draws inspiration from Toronto Maple Leafs forward, Mitch Marner. "I try to model my game after Mitch Marner. I think we play the game in the same way, with the same swag, and as a pass-first player. But yeah, he's just super skilled and fun to watch." This commitment to learning from the best speaks to Kieren's ambition and desire to elevate his game to the highest level.
For Kieren, St. Andrew's College is more than just a school; it's a community and a source of unforgettable experiences. "There's nothing not to love about living at SAC; it's the most fun I've ever had. Just being with the guys all the time is a blast." These words capture the camaraderie and joy that characterize life at SAC, contributing to the holistic development of its students.
St. Andrew's First Hockey Head Coach, David Manning, offered his thoughts on Kieren's decision. "Kieren had a number of options to choose from, but in the end, the allure of Big Ten Athletics and the environment that Penn State has created in their short time as a program was too much for him to pass up. He possesses great separation speed and elusiveness; he's had a great start to his first season with the 1st team."
As Kieren Dervin prepares to embark on the next chapter of his journey, the SAC community stands behind him, celebrating the achievements of a talented athlete and exemplary student. This will be the first SAC student to play hockey at Penn State, and they are welcoming a player whose skills on the ice and commitment to excellence promise a bright future in collegiate hockey.
