SAC Saints turn heads at Can-Am Super Cup showcase
St. Andrew's College 1st Soccer stood tall this weekend against some of the top schools and clubs in the US northeast and Canada at the Can-Am Super Cup in Albany, NY.
The Saints kicked off their weekend on Friday night, with a narrow 1-0 loss to a one of Vermont's best youth set ups, Far Post FC.
Just 14 hours later, SAC jumped into the win column with a 1-0 victory over York United. Forward Josh Henriques '26 slotted home the Saints' lone goal and the clean sheet was locked down by centre backs
Matvey Semochkin '25,
Thierry Johnston '25 and U16 call-up Enzo Han '27.
SAC's Saturday afternoon match up was a scrappy affair that saw the Saints fall 4-2 to a quality Immaculate Heart Central (NY) side. IHC got on the board in the 10th minute, but just five minutes later Henriques headed home a Seb Madeiros '25 corner to knot the game at 1-1. SAC fell behind 3-1 early in the second stanza, but fought back once again when senior fullback
Grayson Coburn '24 slipped past the IHC defence and fired home from 10 yards out. The Saints continued to push for the equalizer, but a late-penalty put the draw out of reach.
In Sunday's finale, senior goalkeeper
Gaven Toor '24 made a pair of point blank saves and SAC almost found the winner late, off the foot of
Pax Cortizas '25, but were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw with Lake Placid's Northwood School. The Saints defending was rock solid once again, with
Faris Al-Hinai '25 and
Oliver Poulos '25 standing tall.
Four outstanding team performances to close out a successful fall schedule.
Go Saints!
