st Hockey squared off with the Elmira Sugar Kings on Sunday night, with the Saints emerged victorious with a final score of 7-2 at the Dan Snyder Memorial Arena.
The scoring started in the 1st period when junior
Luke Sinclair scored a goal at the 10:05 mark off a beautiful assist from Roarke Gilmour. The 2nd period started with Jordyn Ertel of the Elmira Sugar Kings scoring a goal at 2:17 to bring the score to 1-1. However, the Saints quickly responded with a second goal from
Luke Sinclair and
Rory Gilmour at 4:58 and 5:54, respectively.
Aidan Lane extended the lead for the Saints at 13:49 coming from the bench after an expired penalty. He was sprung free by
Dean Letourneau, made a nice move on the breakaway and made no mistake, 4-1 SAC. Ian Speiran of the Sugar Kings scored their second goal at 14:49 of the 2
nd period to have the score 4-2 in favor of the visitors after 40 minutes.
In the 3rd period, the Saints continued their offensive onslaught with goals from
Oscar Wu at 0:23 and
Kieren Dervin at 7:50.
Luke Sinclair completed his hat-trick with a goal at 14:41.
The Saints had a total of 32 minutes in penalties, while the Sugar Kings had 34 minutes. The Saints had 5 power play opportunities but failed to convert, while the Sugar Kings had 3 power plays but also couldn't score.
Liam Furey tended the goal for the Saints, making 15 saves out of 17 shots. Derek Hartley defended the net for the Sugar Kings, making 24 saves out of 31 shots.
The Saints next action is on October 9
th in Prague, Czechia as they face-off with Sparta Prague. 1
