The First Basketball team hosted Trinity College School (TCS) this past week in a very important CISAA matchup with playoff seeding implications. TCS's lineup featured a formidable player standing at 6'8" with the ability to attack the rim and shoot the three, so the Saints knew they would need to work together defensively to keep him from dictating the game. Fortunately, Gabe Cabelli and
David Osa-Ogbeide were up to the task, causing problems and working hard on defense for the entire game.
Thanks to a loud and supportive crowd in Bedard gym coming straight from the MacPherson pep rally, the Saints rode a wave of momentum and built a strong lead in the first half of play.
Nick Shackell and
Jacari Marshall were on fire from the perimeter and benefitted from strong ball movement to get good looks at three-pointers.
Brandon Yi and
Ben Fitzpatrick attacked the paint and showcased their mid-range game, while
Spencer Haslett controlled the glass at both ends of the floor.
The second half saw the Saints continue their commitment to unselfish play, and the crowd was treated to a great display of teamwork.
Reza Ziai created steals while Micheal O'Brien protected the rim on defense, while
Edan Macpherson drove hard and found
Gavin Meng and
Duncan McDonell for open threes.
On the day, the Saints knocked down 17 threes and piled up 26 assists, while
David Osa-Ogbeide had a double-double - in assists and rebounds!
Hopefully the teamwork will continue this week for the Saints as they face off against Ridley College on Wednesday and Newmarket High School Thursday evening for the annual "Spirit Night" game!
