1st Lacrosse 2022-23 Season Recap

First off, I want to congratulate the Varsity Lacrosse team for back-to-back CISAA Championships!! This will be an era of Saints lacrosse not soon forgotten. None of this is possible as a team without the constant dedication from our Trainer, Nat. She truly is the one that always kept us going and is so much more than just a trainer! Kyle Richardson and the interns were also always there to lend a helping hand, we all felt nothing but support from Graham Brown and Jocelyn Falbo who were always there for me in my first year at the helm of the program. When we started with much of this group last year, we had little to no idea what we had on our hands in terms of talent. Although this year was different, there were significant question marks. What we knew for sure, was that we had two Division 1 quality attackmen in, Anselmo Rego and Brendan Wright. We knew that Browny was most likely going to fill in a substantial hole on the right side. We knew that Kai Erkkila was going to do athletic Kai things, that Belmonte would win the majority of draws and that Johnny would be the best defender in the league with a great core of Power, Kummer and Pahanich behind him. We knew that the lab himself LV was going to set the tone each and every minute we are on the field and that Dell Elle was jacked up San Pelligreno, ready to replace Max Seguin as LV's bash brother. Our midfield was filled with a mixture of athletic smart lacrosse players in Bulmer, Dylan Murray (fridge em up fridge), Wyatt Biggar and then beyond that we had some promising grade 10's in Grey Berman and Hank Heider making the jump to Varsity, while Ferrante and Bernier were all sorts of athletic, just waiting for on opportunity.

The MIP for this year could've been any of 10 guys. Seeing how much time and effort you all put into learning the game is truly amazing. I think Goodie alone lost 50 balls as he was just constantly on the field shooting and shooting and shooting. The Future is bright for Saints lacrosse. Nonetheless, our MIP for this year is someone who may very well only play Lacrosse for one year, but holy moly, was it fun to watch him grow into a legit player over the last two months. Our MIP is Anthony Lio.

The MVP this year is arguably one of the hardest decisions we as a coaching staff had to make. Again an award that could go to a number of guys Jonathan Castagna , one of the greatest leaders and role models in the program's history, Anselmo Rego, one of the purest gamers I've ever coached, Kai Erkkila is one of the best athletes I've ever seen on a lacrosse field, Nick Belmonte, is arguably the best draw man in the country. But I think we all know that over the course of the year, there was one player that was a constant wow factor. He's one of the most natural goal scores in the program's history, strong and fast with an incredible shot, he will eventually go on to torture Division I goalies for years to come. Our MVP for the 2023 season is Brendan Wright.
