Jon Butcher has been with SAC since 1998. He obtained a B.Sc. in Honours Physics from the University of Waterloo and an Honours B.Ed from the University of Toronto. Jon is the Head Coach of 1st Rugby and brings extensive experience as a former club and university player. He has achieved the distinction of being a two-time OUA champion, an OUA All-Star, a Level 2 Rugby coach, a World Rugby Educator, and a current Ontario referee.

Under Jon's guidance, the SAC Rugby program has consistently excelled, boasting an impressive record of 23 championship seasons over the past 56 years. As a coach, Jon places an emphasis on loving what you do and who you are doing it with.

Jon's rugby journey began in the UK before he played at the university and club level in Canada. He has dedicated 25 years to refereeing and remains active at the provincial level, alongside his accreditation as a World Rugby Educator. Jon considers rugby to be the ultimate game due to its unique blend of physicality, skill, and fitness requirements, combined with an unparalleled ethos of respect and sportsmanship. In his words, Rugby is simply the most fun you can have on an acre of grass!
