The 1st Football team made an 11-hour bus trip down to Long Island to play the Long Island Lutheran Crusaders. LuHi is ranked #11 in New York State and #8 among all Prep Schools in the United States.
This was the first and only overnight trip for our team, so it also doubled as an opportunity to build team camaraderie.
Entering the game, the primary objective was to try and establish a run game offensively and limit the number of big plays on defense. LuHi came out fast out of the gate and took an early 14-0 lead before QB
Dylan Kress connected with REC
Gabriel Cabelli for a 45-yard TD pass. LuHi had another TD before the end of the 1st quarter to make the score 21-7.
The 2nd quarter was dominated by the Saints defense, holding LuHi to no points. The Saints could only muster a field goal by
Spencer Haslett. The score at halftime was LuHi 21 – Saints 10.
Unfortunately, the 3rd quarter wasn't our best as we gave up a couple of turnovers, and LuHi capitalized, making the score now 42-10 at the end of the 3rd.
The Saints were determined to finish the game strong in the 4th quarter. RB
Felix Auger took a handoff 48 yards for a touchdown to make the score 42-16.
All of the players were able to get on the field and experience high school football in the US. Our trip was capped off by watching Indiana @ Penn State on Saturday before returning to SAC campus. Our players represented SAC very well, and we are proud of their efforts.
Next is the CISAA semi-finals on Wednesday, November 1st, at 2:30 p.m. here at Yuill Field. We hope to see our student body out cheering the team as they begin their quest for back-to-back CISAA Championships.
